March 2012 Meeting

We have selected Three Junes, by Julia Glass, for our March 2012 book. Three Junes was published in 2002, and was Julia Glass's first book. The Library Journal review begins with this:

This strong and memorable debut novel draws the reader deeply into the lives of several central characters during three separate Junes spanning ten years.

We will meet on Friday, March 23rd, same bat time, same bat place.
Rachel will be hostess
Brooke will bring book selections
Denise will facilitate our discussion.

Please try to let another member know if you do not plan to attend the meeting. As you know, we try to wait for everyone to show up before we start.

(For the record, Sheila will not be attending the March meeting)

February 2012 meeting

In February, we will be reading March, by Geraldine Brooks. This was at least the second time that Donna had presented this book as a choice, so we chose it. It is the story of Mr. March, the father who was away from home during Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott. Geraldine Brooks was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for this book in 2006. Also note that G Brooks wrote People of the Book, which we read in 2009.

Fran says there is extra credit for reading Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott...

Our meeting will be on Friday, February 24th, 2012.

Donna will lead the discussion.

Lisa will be out-of-town for the next three meetings, returning in May. Alas, she will miss the 12th anniversary celebration in April.

I will have a preliminary calendar ready for review in the new couple of weeks.

January 2012 meeting

Happy New Year!!

Our January meeting will be on January 27th, 2012.

We will be reading Stones from the River, by Ursula Hegi.

Kim will facilitate the discussion
Donna will bring next month's books and
Denise will be our hostess with the mostess.

Some are curious to know what books were not selected. There is an ongoing list with a link on the righthand side of the page. However, the two other books presented for our reading in January were
The Road from Coorain, by Jill Ker Conway
and
Boogaloo on 2nd Avenue, by Mark Kurlansky.
