July 2022

This month we will be reading The Dutch House, by Ann Patchett. The Contra Costa Library says this to describe the book: "Ann Patchett, the New York Times bestselling author of Commonwealth and State of Wonder, returns with her most powerful novel to date: a richly moving story that explores the indelible bond between two siblings, the house of their childhood, and a past that will not let them go".

It is available from the library in book form, as an e-book and also audiobook. Interesting aside: The audiobook is read by Tom Hanks. This book is 335 pages long and was published in 2019

We will meet again at Fran's house, on July 22nd.  Kim will bringing next month's selections. See y'all there!!

April 2022 - 22nd Anniversary

For our 22nd Anniversary, the 263rd book, we will be reading The Music of Bees, by Eileen Garvin. This is the THIRD book we have read with Bees in the title.

In April 2002 we discussed Bee Season by Myra Goldberg -- NOTE:  that was TWENTY YEARS AGO!!

In November 2003 we discussed The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd.

The Music of Bees was Eileen Garvin's first book. A quick plot synopsis:  "Following three lonely strangers in a rural Oregon town, each working through grief and life's curveballs, who are brought together by happenstance on a local honeybee farm where they find surprising friendship, healing--and maybe even a second chance--just when they least expect it"--

Donna will be our hostess, Mae will bring the book selections, and Fran will facilitate our discussion.

Happy Anniversary!!

March 2022

This month, we will be reading Next Year in Havana by Chanel Cleeton.  There are copies in the library in all formats - book, 3-book, audio.  The description begins as "After the death of her beloved grandmother, a Cuban-American woman travels to Havana, where she discovers the roots of her identity--and unearths a family secret hidden since the revolution ... Havana, 1958. "

This book was published in 2018 - 382 pages.

We plan to meet in person at Fran's house on March 24th.  Denise will lead the discussion, Fran will bring the books. Mae is scheduled to bring some food, but I think Lisa has offered to swap with her for that.

See y'all there!!

February 2022

Our February book group meeting is scheduled on Friday, February 25, 2022.

This month, we will be reading The Last Report on the Miracles at Little No Horse, by Louise Erdrich. There is only one physical copy, and one e-book copy of this book in the Contra Costa Library. However, a number of us use other library systems, and it is available used through Abebooks for under $5.00. You need to find your copy NOW!!

I will not divulge any plot elements at this point, for fear of saying too much. Short description: Another of Louse Erdrich's books that takes place on the reservation.

Rachel will be our facilitatress, Fran will bring our book selections and Mae will provide some food, if we actually meet in person. We will decide that later in February.
