November 4th meeting

We have moved the October meeting to November 4th. Change your calendar!! Here are assignments:
Hostess - Mae
Books selections - Fran
Facilitatress - Denise
And the book?  We are reading Still Life, by Louise Penny
There are 24 copies in the Contra Costa Library - note that I put myself on the hold list last night, and I am #14 in line. So chances are good that I will have the book by the end of the month, but I would suggest placing a hold today.  Go ahead and do that. I'll wait for you here...
Used copies from Amazon are about $6 with shipping, $8 on Kindle, $10 new with Prime.  Get your copy however you can.
And here's what Amazon says about the book:
Winner of the New Blood Dagger, Arthur Ellis, Barry, Anthony, and Dilys awards.
Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Surêté du Québec and his team of investigators are called in to the scene of a suspicious death in a rural village south of Montreal. Jane Neal, a local fixture in the tiny hamlet of Three Pines, just north of the U.S. border, has been found dead in the woods. The locals are certain it's a tragic hunting accident and nothing more, but Gamache smells something foul in these remote woods, and is soon certain that Jane Neal died at the hands of someone much more sinister than a careless bowhunter.

Still Life introduces not only an engaging series hero in Inspector Gamache, who commands his forces--and this series--with integrity and quiet courage, but also a winning and talented new writer of traditional mysteries in the person of Louise Penny.

September 25th meeting

Well, it's official. I think I have lost my mind. Did I send out the email about "this is the book?" because I thought I did, but I can't find the email now... So, my apologies, this is very very late.

This month's meeting is Friday, September 25th. That is less than two weeks away, so you need to get hopping if you don't have the book yet.

The book is In the Heart of the Canyon, by Elizabeth Hyde.  The short description:  "a gripping new novel about a rafting trip through the Grand Canyon that changes the lives of everyone on board."

Fran will bring food, Denise will bring books, and Rachel will facilitate our scintillating and brilliantly clever discussion. My notes say that Mae will be absent. See y'all there!!
