June 22 meeting

Our next meeting will be Friday, June 22, 2012.

This month, we are reading Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, by Jamie Ford.
When artifacts from Japanese families sent to internment camps during World War II are uncovered during renovations at a Seattle hotel, a man embarks on a quest that leads to memories of growing up Chinese in a city rife with anti-Japanese sentiment.
There are copies of the book, and CDs available in the library.

Sheila will be your hostess.
Sherrie will bring July book choices and
Lisa will facilitate.  Remember Lisa?

Enjoy the book, and we'll see each other on the fourth Friday in June.

May 2012 meeting

Our next meeting will be Friday, May 25th.

We are reading All Quiet on the Western Front, by Erich Marie Remarche. I offer you a summary from Wikipedia
All Quiet on the Western Front (German: Im Westen nichts Neues) is a novel by Erich Maria Remarque, a German veteran of World War I. The book describes the German soldiers' extreme physical and mental stress during the war, and the detachment from civilian life felt by many of these soldiers upon returning home from the front.
The novel was first published in November and December 1928 in the German newspaper Vossische Zeitung and in book form in late January 1929. The book and its sequel, The Road Back, were among the books banned and burned in Nazi Germany. It sold 2.5 million copies in twenty-five languages in its first eighteen months in print.[1]
In 1930, the book was adapted as an Oscar-winning film of the same name, directed by Lewis Milestone.
The schedule is up-to-date, and our assignments for May are as follows:
